ABOUT

Omar Thomas composed “A Mother of a Revolution!” in 2019, as a celebration of the bravery of trans women, and a tribute to Marsha P. Johnson in particular. Johnson was a key figure in the Stonewall uprising of June 1969, a pivotal event in the fight for LGBTQ+ rights which is commemorated annually at Pride celebrations worldwide. The piece begins as a fierce and unapologetic march, and ends with a nod to disco music and club culture, long considered a safe space for the LGBTQ+ community.
