ABOUT

Some of the most exciting developments in jazz today involve the musical interweaving of culturally diverse repertoires and styles into new vehicles for personal and collective expression. This Jewish liturgical song belongs to the Yom Kippur holiday and translates from Hebrew to “Lord of Forgiveness”. The melody is believed to be centuries old and is derived from the Jerusalemite cantorial tradition. In this vibrant and groovy arrangement, the Jazz Workshop: New Directions ensemble blends jazz, Afro-Cuban and Middle-Eastern influences and approaches.
